CABO FROWARD HIKE in Punta Arenas

Travel through scenic fjords to the place where the oceans meet and mountains rise from the sea. Learn about the great explorers who came here before you as you hike at the very tip of South America.

Description

Experience Patagonia by land and sea on a journey to the tip of the continental Americas.

See a snapshot of rural life in Patagonia as you travel South of Punta Arenas to Bahia Agua Fresca. From there, you’ll climb aboard a zodiac raft to navigate the fertile waters of the Strait of Magellan.

Enjoy the salt breeze on your face as you glide through the cold waters of the strait aboard a zodiac boat, masterfully captained by seasoned professionals.

Skim over copper-leaved forests of giant kelp, occasionally pursued by the gleaming black and white of Tonina dolphins. Along the rocky shores, see the abundance of flowers that attract bright green hummingbirds to feed.

After you arrive at Cabo Froward, set out on a short, beginner-friendly but steep hike through the temperate rainforest up to the Cruz de los Mares monument. From your vantage point above the water, you’ll marvel at 360 degree views of the peaks and glaciers of the Patagonian and Fuegian Andes.

Enjoy a picnic lunch of fresh, local ingredients on the beach, keeping your eyes out to spot whales, sea lions, and even the occasional penguin.

Returning, you’ll explore secret bays and hike along sandy beaches, enjoying the changing scenery as the tide comes in.

On the way back to Punta Arenas, stop off at a historical ranch house for a meal of traditional Patagonian flavours served by a family of legendary Patagonian gauchos.
